The Pike County Health Department and the Pike County Humane Society are sponsoring a series of rabies vaccination clinics throughout the county on Thursday, June 13.

“This clinic is primarily for cats and dogs,” said East Kentucky Animal Clinic Vet Tech Barry Ratliff. “This is something that we’ve been doing every year for 30 years and we’ve seen around 100 animals each year.”

Tim Comer

Tim Comer and Cleo of Delbarton were visiting the East Kentucky Animal Clinic Monday. The clinic will be holding Rabies Clinics at four locations at specific times on Thursday, June 13.

The state of Kentucky requires all dogs, cats, and ferrets to be vaccinated for rabies by four months of age with a second rabies vaccination due 12 months later. One-year and three-year vaccinations are available at most veterinarians for a small charge.

Clinics will be conducted by a veterinarian from the East Kentucky Animal Clinic. Fees for rabies vaccination will be $5 per animal. All other services will be priced at the veterinarian’s discretion. Pike County Animal Shelter will also be issuing proof of vaccination dog tags and may have animals available for adoption depending on weather conditions.

Lana Gillman

“Other vaccinations will also be available for a charge,” said Ratliff.

East Ridge High School will host a clinic from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; Shelby Valley High School from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Johns Creek Elementary from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm and Belfry High School from 3 pm to 4 pm

Participants are encouraged to arrive early, as clinic time at each location is very limited.
